Driving Medical Interoperability to Improve Care and Lower Costs
Tuesday, December 10 – 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

SESSION OVERVIEW

Interoperability is essential to creating a sustainable connected health ecosystem. The ability for health information to be seamlessly shared among devices and enterprise health systems is key to improving patient safety, managing individual health and lowering healthcare costs.

Interoperability involves many complex layers of functional and technical requirements, and has numerous practical, technical and commercial implications that have prevented broad implementation and adoption. Consumer devices, medical devices and electronic health records don’t seamlessly communicate today. This makes it difficult for individuals to readily access and use data to manage their health, especially chronic conditions. Furthermore, hospitals require redundant efforts to transfer data manually and a costly, complex IT infrastructure, both of which introduce the potential for miscommunication and errors that adversely affect patients.

How can health care get connected? Attend the session to learn how patients, hospitals and health systems, technology vendors, standards organizations, certification bodies, government agencies and healthcare associations are collaborating under a common goal to drive rapid, widespread and sustained interoperability of medical technology.

Panelists include:

Kerry McDermott (moderator), Senior Director, West Health

Ed Cantwell, Executive Director, Center for Medical Interoperability

Joe Leweling, AAMI

Anna McCollister, Co-Founder, Galileo Analytics
