(Washington, DC – April 30, 2013)  – The Geoffrey Beene Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Initiative has chosen Galileo Analytics’ visual data exploration and advanced analytics platform, Galileo Cosmos, to provide analytical support for the foundation’s 2013 Geoffrey Beene Global NeuroDiscovery Challenge.

The challenge, which was launched last night at the Society for Women’s Health Research annual gala, will provide $100,000 in prizes to solvers who can identify male/female differences in early cognitive decline. The contest is in support of WomenAgainstAlzheimer’s, a new network of prominent women leaders nationwide working to speed the pace of Alzheimer’s research.

Researchers or other “solvers” can participate in the challenge through Innocentive.com, a global leader in crowdsourcing innovation problems to the world’s best minds. Those chosen as finalists will be given access to data through Galileo Cosmos, giving them the ability to visualize, refine and validate their hypotheses through Cosmos’ unique collaborative research platform.

In addition, the contest is supported by some of the leading Alzheimer’s research institutions and advocacy groups, including the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC), Institute of Medicine (IOM), WomenAgainstAlzheimer’s, 21st Century BrainTrust™, BrightFocus Foundation™, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
